Through my practicum experience in a second-grade classroom and my work as a substitute teacher, I have gained a better understanding of what it means to support students in a real classroom setting. These experiences allowed me to observe how routines, classroom management strategies, and teacher-student relationships all work together to create a positive learning environment. I also had opportunities to interact with students in both whole group and small group settings, which helped me see how different learners respond to instruction and support. By observing and participating in daily classroom activities, I began to understand how important flexibility, patience, and consistency are when working with students. These experiences have helped me start developing the skills needed to support both the academic and social needs of learners.
Artifact 1: Practicum Observation Logs
During my practicum placement in a second-grade classroom, I completed daily journal logs that documented classroom routines, instructional strategies, and student interactions. These logs allowed me to reflect on what I observed and better understand how a classroom operates on a daily basis. Through these observations, I noticed how consistent routines such as morning meetings, structured literacy, and transitions helped create a calm and organized learning environment. I also observed how my cooperating teacher used strategies like modeling, guided instruction, and student reflection to support both learning and behavior. For example, I observed how a classroom management system using tally marks and reflection slips helped hold students accountable while still maintaining a positive classroom environment. I also saw how the teacher balanced instruction with emotional support, such as helping a student who was upset and guiding them through problem-solving. This artifact demonstrates my development of an understanding of classroom structure, management, and the importance of supporting both student learning and well-being.
Journal-Observations-1Artifact 2: Teacher Evaluation Forms
During my practicum experience, I received feedback through teacher evaluation forms that focused on my performance in the classroom when teaching my lesson plans. These evaluations provided insight into my strengths and areas for growth as I begin developing my teaching practice. The feedback highlighted my ability to interact positively with students, support classroom routines, and remain engaged throughout the school day. It also gave me a better understanding of what is expected in a classroom setting and how I can continue improving my skills. Receiving this feedback was valuable because it allowed me to reflect on my performance from another perspective and recognize areas where I am growing as well as areas I can continue to develop. This artifact shows how I use feedback to reflect on my performance and continue developing as an educator.

Artifact 3: Practicum Reflection & Analysis
During my practicum experience, I completed a written reflection analyzing the classroom environment, student needs, and instructional practices I observed. This reflection helped me think more deeply about how different factors, such as classroom structure, student behavior, and learning differences, impact teaching and learning. In my reflection, I focused on how the classroom included a range of learners with different academic and behavioral needs. I also analyzed how routines, clear expectations, and consistent structure helped create a positive learning environment for students. This artifact shows how I am developing the ability to reflect on classroom experiences and use those observations to inform my own teaching practices.
