Communication and Writing

Throughout my coursework, I have developed strong communication and writing skills that allow me to clearly express ideas, analyze information, and reflect on my learning. These skills are important in education because teachers must communicate effectively through lesson planning, collaboration, and supporting students. The following artifacts highlight my ability to organize ideas, apply critical thinking, and connect academic concepts to real-world situations. Each piece demonstrates my growth as a writer and my ability to communicate in a clear and purposeful way.

Artifact 1: Personal Philosophy of Education

This paper, created for my SPED 400: Foundations of Special Education Legal Aspects and Characteristics class, focuses on my beliefs about education and the type of teacher I want to become. In this assignment, I explored the importance of creating an inclusive classroom environment that supports all students, including those with disabilities. I also discussed instructional strategies, such as visual supports and social stories, that can help students become more independent and successful in the classroom. Through this paper, I was able to clearly express my values as a future educator and reflect on how my personal experiences have shaped my goals in education. It also helped me practice supporting my ideas with research and explaining strategies in a clear and organized way. This artifact shows my ability to communicate my beliefs about education and connect them to effective teaching practices.

Artifact 2: Behavior Change Project

This project for my SPED 411: Classroom and Behavior Management Techniques for Students with Diverse Needs class focuses on analyzing student behavior and developing strategies to support positive change in the classroom. In this project, I examined a case study of a student who exhibited challenging behaviors and identified possible causes, including academic difficulty and environmental factors. I also created a plan that included a hypothesis, replacement behaviors, data collection methods, and evidence-based interventions. Through this process, I learned how important it is to look beyond surface-level behavior and understand the underlying reasons behind a student’s actions. This artifact shows my ability to analyze student behavior and apply strategies that support positive and meaningful change in the classroom.

Artifact 3: Interdisciplinary Research Paper

This research paper that I completed for my IDS 300W: Interdisciplinary Research Process and Theory class, explores student behavior in K–12 classrooms and examines the balance between discipline and support. The assignment required integrating perspectives from multiple disciplines to better understand a complex issue in education. Through this paper, I developed my ability to research, analyze information, and connect ideas across different areas of study. It also helped me think more critically about how student behavior should be addressed in ways that are both effective and supportive. This artifact shows my ability to apply interdisciplinary thinking and communicate complex ideas clearly through writing.
