In my TLED 478: Integrating Instruction across the PK-6 Curriculum class, I developed lesson plans that focus on helping students make meaningful connections between geography, culture, and daily life. These lessons are designed to be interactive and student-centered, using strategies like discussion, hands-on activities, and visual supports to keep students engaged. Through this work, I learned how to align instruction with standards while also creating lessons that are developmentally appropriate and relevant for elementary learners.
Artifact 1: Social Studies & Language Arts Lesson
This lesson focuses on helping students understand how geography influenced the lives of Indigenous peoples through an interactive read-aloud and group collaboration. Students build their understanding by participating in discussions, analyzing visuals, and working together to create an anchor chart that represents their learning. This artifact shows how I use discussion and collaboration to help students engage with content and make connections between ideas.

In this lesson, students explore how Indigenous peoples used natural resources by collecting and organizing data. They create pictographs to represent their findings and use comparison language to explain which resources were used most or least. This lesson connects math concepts to real-world content in a way that is meaningful and accessible for students. This artifact shows how I connect math instruction to real-world topics while helping students develop both content understanding and problem-solving skills.

This lesson focuses on how living things depend on their environment to survive. Students explore different habitats and participate in a sorting activity to match animals with their environments. They then make connections between animal habitats and how people, including Indigenous groups, adapt to their surroundings. This artifact shows how I use hands-on and inquiry-based activities to help students understand scientific concepts and make meaningful connections.
