Journal Entry #4

Review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level relates to your experiences with technology. Give specific examples of how your digital experiences relate to each level of need.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs connects strongly to technology. At the physiological level, technology supports basic needs through food delivery apps, online grocery services, and health tracking devices that I sometimes use. Safety is addressed with cybersecurity tools, antivirus software, and two-factor authentication that protect sensitive information. Belongingness is fostered by social media, online communities, and group chats that help me stay connected with others. Esteem needs are often fulfilled by recognition on platforms such as LinkedIn, or through accomplishments shared online that bring encouragement and validation. At the top, self-actualization is achieved through online learning platforms, coding projects, and creative tools I’ve used to grow and build skills. Because of these experiences, I’ve learned that technology can mirror Maslow’s model, supporting both survival and achievement.
