How to Survive the First Weeks of the Semester

If you’re reading this we’re already about 3 weeks into the semester or even further. At this point you have most likely already gotten a feel for most of your classes and have probably already had a first quiz or assignment. Based off of the first couple of weeks your excitement for the semester has either increased, decreased or remained the same. Regardless of your standpoint, this article will contain beneficial information on how to maintain your grades and stay ahead of the work.

  1. Write down every single due date for assignments, quizzes, tests and projects.
    • Write these important dates somewhere, either it be your phone, planner or bathroom mirror, so that you can constantly check and be easily reminded that you have work to be completed.
  2. Do not be afraid to ask questions
    • If you are unclear about an assignment or how to do something, never be afraid to ask questions. 9 times out of 10 someone else in the room has the same questions. If you feel uncomfortable asking in front of the class see your professor during their office hours, or send them an email. Being unclear leads to mistakes!
  3. Step outside of your comfort zone but also know your boundaries
    • It’s okay to try new things, that’s what college is for, to help you step outside of your comfort and meet new people. Join new organizations and find what you’re interested in, but don’t put more on your plate than you can handle. Remember that you’re here to get your degree and that your school work should be one of your main priorities.
  4. Use the resources provided to you on campus
    • There are numerous resources on this campus that are free to students, your tuition literally pays for these resources and programs. Use them to your best ability, whether you need a tutor or want to form a study group, this campus has all of your options.
