Throughout your life you develop habits – whether good or bad you ultimately do. These habits can determine what kind of person you are and who you are to become. We see this through people that make their bed every morning, people who habitually drink coffee, and even through people that start their day with a cold glass of water. Below you will see some ways to change your habits and a fun piece of advice that I heard before coming to college.
Why do I need to change my habits? Maybe you do, maybe you don’t, but for now all you should be doing is evaluating them. Once you have an understanding of the types of habits that you do have, then you can determine if they are good or bad habits. Good habits can be here to stay or even adjusted some, but bad habits have got to go! I will go into this a little more at the end of this blog 🙂 For now we just want to be aware of things that we habitually do. For starters you can be more conscious about what you do when certain things happen, for example, waking up in the morning, be conscious of the things that you do and don’t do. This can help you to become aware of the habits you have.
What new habits can I form to improve my life? Well the answer to that question is it’s totally up to you! You are in control of your life and ultimately you are the one that gets to make decisions in it. For starters I would suggest looking into things that successful people do, or habits of happy people and then tailoring your new habits to whatever will work best for you and your situation. For me, I looked into many different habits of successful people and tried out some to see what would work best in my life. Habits are not a one-size-fits-all thing, you really have to decide what is best for you and what will make you the happiest overall!
What are some examples of good habits? Good habits can be anything that does not cause harm or danger to yourself or others. It can have a varying definition because what I find to be good, you might not find to be productive for you. Habits are all about trying out new things and getting them implemented in your life. Some examples of things that I find to be good habits include things like making the bed every morning, reading for thirty minutes a day, getting fresh air and going outside every day, drinking water after I wake up in the morning, the list goes on! Many of these habits are daily things because I find it easier to keep track of something if I do it on the daily.
Final piece of advice? When I was entering college someone once told me that the habits that I create while in college will carry over with me into the adult world, and if I wanted to become the best version of myself, then college is the time to start molding myself into the best version that I can be. I really took this to heart and because of that I was able to really transform my life in such a positive way.
All in all, I encourage you Monarchs to get a hold of your life habits, your goals, your dreams, and pave the way into your future to become the best version of yourself that you can be! I know you all can do great things in your lifetime and why wait to start later? Why shouldn’t you start your habit changing after college? Because the time is now, we will become the best versions of ourselves and we will be able to mold into even better middle aged adults one day, Reign on!
