Font Selection

The primary font displayed on my portfolio is part of the theme that I selected, Dyad. There is no ability to change the font, but I selected this theme — including the font style — very deliberately. It is a minimalist design with very clean lines. The attention is drawn immediately to the content.  This is also true of the font selection throughout. I typically prefer sans serif fonts for body work (smaller fonts), especially with digital design. This theme uses a serif font for headings, but sans serif for the body. The combination draws attention to highlight important sections, while also allowing for readability with smaller text. These decisions around sizing are equally important to decisions about font style as I used size to draw the reader’s attention, to section segments, and to highlight important elements.

With the quotes that I have sprinkled throughout the portfolio, I selected a primary font that matched the style of the headings throughout the site (Merriweather). Mixing too many different font styles can become visually distracting. I did choose one more stylistic font (Kaushan Script), which is used for my name and the author’s names for each quote. The script stands in bold contrast to the other elements. Combined with the imagery and use of color, it draws the eye to these elements without sacrificing the overall minimalistic design. Both Merriweather and Kaushan Script are available within Google Slides, which was used to create these visual elements.

You can tell you spent quite a bit of time going through the different fonts and putting thought into your selection for name and quotes. I have the same theme, so I will have to go back and change them to my preference.
