For my second TalkAbroad conversation, I spoke with Ellias Vallot. He is 40 years old and lives in the Southeast of Mexico. He works for TalkAbroad, but he is also currently in school studying economy. In this conversation, I used the TalkAbroad sheet, and I asked him if he was satisfied at his university. He is very happy with his university, and he likes his professors a lot. We talked about school, jobs, anf friends, and I felt much more confident talking about my life because I had strengthened my conversational skills. I was still very nervous about the conversation like last time, but I felt much less stressed about it than last time and I felt I was able to communicate more easily, although I still have much room to improve. Like last time, I had trouble with blanking on things I had known before. However, I found it much easier to manage this time. Like Donovan, from my first TalkAbroad conversation, Ellias was also very patient and talked slowly and clearly so that I could understand more easily. I felt like I did a good job speaking about my experience doing children’s theatre for local elementary schools. I feel like pronunciation was a strength of mine in this conversation as well. Although it is not perfect, he didn’t seem to have trouble understanding my accent. I thought my pronunciation was mostly consistent overall, and I would say that it has improved slightly since my last TalkAbroad conversation. I also felt like my comprehension had improved since last time, and there were less instances where I was unsure of how to respond compared to my previous conversation. An interesting cultural difference that I was reminded of in this conversation was the age limit for alcohol in the US compared to France. When discussing health, we brought up drinking, and I made a mental note about the cultural differences in alcohol customs between the US and most European countries.
