Cyber technology has created opportunities for workplace deviance in many ways.
The easy accessibility to a great amount of sensitive information has created significant opportunities for employees to misuse it for personal gain. For instance, an employee could steal or alter confidential data and sell it to competitors for financial profit. Furthermore, employees holding animosity or grievances would intentionally harm the organization in any possible way by exploiting their access to sensitive data. In addition, anonymity provided by remote work environment has further fueled workplace deviance. When an individual’s identity is difficult to trace, it increases the likelihood that employees will engage in unethical behavior such as cyber bullying or harassment.
Even though technological advancements have significantly increased efficiency and productivity in work place, they have also created challenges in the field of cyber security. As insider threats often involve trusted employees exploiting their access, it’s crucial to adopt and implement proactive strategies that can identify and address these risks before they can cause harm.
