Q: Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe

A: One of the most impressive inventions that the human race has created is the power of computers. In many different ways, computers have vastly helped the world and continue to be a sign of a bright future of development and growth for mankind; in other ways, computers have led a lot of people to truly debate and sometimes even fear for the safety of people and human integrity. On one side of the argument, computers are a great way to centralize information in a single place without risk of physical damage. Before computers, most information was likely stored in file cabinet on physical pieces of paper, which are both easy to destroy and to steal from someone breaking in. However, with computers, you not only have a great space to store all of this information in a single place, while occupying only a very small space, but you have a more complex way of protecting that data. On the opposite end though, anyone with a unique skillset to comprehend these systems and their vulnerabilities can easily hack into systems and organizations, creating a huge risk that can put loads of privacy information in danger. However, another benefit of computers is that methods of security are getting significantly much more advanced as time goes on, with more encryption methods and defense being created to prevent and even minimalize even the most extreme of attacks. While this is great for the protection of businesses and organizational systems, this unfortunately also means that as new technologies for protecting security systems increases, so does new technologies for specifically hacking into and attacking systems increases. Furthermore, as the need for more protections needed to simply protect their information, businesses now are practically required to spend more resources and money in order to research security methods, which is hard for organization’s depending on their size and budget limits. With all of these issues though, computers have also granted the ability to connect seamlessly with companies and customers as well and further allow individuals to have protection of their valuable information by business security systems that they normally wouldn’t be able to create; thus, individuals can benefit by having their information stored and protected. In general, there’s a lot of debate still floating in the air about the future of computers and their place in our future; however, despite the possible negatives, the future of technology also offers a lot of incredible benefits to storing and protecting information.
