Q: Digital Forensics | Davin Teo | TEDxHongKongSalon – YouTube Watch this video and think about how the career of digital forensics investigators relate to the social sciences. Write a journal entry describing what you think about the speaker’s pathway to his career.
A: Digital forensics, similar to cybersecurity, is a multi-disciplinary field that collects information and data in a digital space in order to present it as evidence for a specific event or action. In a lot of ways, digital forensics is very similar to social sciences, as it requires a lot of collecting (researching), compiling, analysis, and presentations of the studies to prove social interactions and events. The largest connections to digital forensics in the social sciences are criminology and the criminal justice system, as criminology is used in the studies to explain why a person may have broken a law or policy and digital forensics work with the criminal justice system to hold an individual accountable for breaking these rules. However, this isn’t to say that digital forensics is just limited to the study and measures of crime, as a bit part of investigating also seems to focus on the psychology of the individual who manipulated the technology and sociology for how people interact with others both in a physical and digital space. In general, digital forensics is a fascinating and important field of study today, as it incorporates many different fields of studies in addition to social sciences to track down and collect evidence from online attackers.
