Cell Biology MEME

A very typical meme truly, but it does sum up my whole understanding as well as where I stand with cell biology. When I first took General Biology I, it was a nightmare learning all about the cell cycle, photosynthesis, glycolysis, the Krebs cycle, and of course the star of the show, mitosis (special shoutout to meiosis as well). After Gen. Bio I, I thought I would not see much of mitosis again, but here we are. It is at this stage of the semester that I truly realized that no matter where I am in life, whatever course I am in, I would always in a way encounter the process of mitosis. Furthermore, the reason I chose the meme is to connect the joke to the topic I found most important among all the lessons encountered in Cell Biology. Knowing mitosis means understanding the fundamentals of cells and how they work. Of course, there is more to mitosis, however, knowing the process (not just by memorization but at heart) would get anyone farther in understanding deeper concepts of cells. For example, I am taking Cell Biology and Genetics during this semester and what I found most fascinating is that my topics for both classes are connected, or almost alike. And sometimes I save time by studying genetics simply because I have already encountered it in Cell Biology. Lastly, knowing mitosis in cell biology and genetics is critically important as it drives cellular reproduction, maintains genetic stability, ensures the inheritance of genetic information, regulates the cell cycle, contributes to genetic diversity, and has practical applications in research and biotechnology.
