Week 1 RAW prompt

Week-1-Benji-RAW-Prompt

Here is the first “RAW prompt” that I responded to in the first week of this class. Initially, my main concerns were becoming a better sentence writer and to hone the smaller parts of writing. Although I do think that my sentences improved, this is not what I ended up focusing on in this class. When I was younger I once heard a writer say something along the lines of, “a book is like a house, and the bricks are the sentences, if you don’t have good sentences, you cannot have a good house.” As a kid, I took this very seriously, but now that I am older I disagree. Books are nothing like houses, they are a lot like books. I love authors that write run-on-sentences (Stephen King) and I love authors that write arguably overly-succinct sentences (Cormac McCarthy). Neither of these are wrong, and this class helped me realize that.
