Week 3 Raw Prompt

Week Three covered an array of topics! These pics included revision, taste, and race. What resonated to me specifically, was the article “Hidden Intellectualism” by Gerald Graff, in which, he underlines the major ways in which his reading affected who he is, and how he thinks. The specific area that I resonated with, was where he explained that much of his reading as a kid centered around sports-related non-fiction. I was the same way growing up so I was immediately privy to what he had to say. This week changed the way I think about what I read. The creative non-fiction I read is not “low-brow,” or “simple” reading just because it about (what would be considered) “blue-color” topics like sports and music. Rather, what I read is very academic and complex, it is simply different than what is commonly considered academic. This has in-turn become essential to how I write now. I put less pressure on myself to sound a certain way, and more pressure to sound like myself.
