Journal Entry #4 (Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs)

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a psychological motivational theory that consists on a five-tier model of human desires, typically depicted as hierarchical tiers within a pyramid Needs. Individuals at the bottom of the hierarchy must be satisfied before attending to top-level needs.

  1. Psychological – psychological needs are important because they must be met before all other needs are considered. These psychological needs are the same as when humans need air, food, and water
  2. Safety needs – Some of the tools and technologies used to help protect against or monitor intrusion for individual data safety include authentication tools, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, antivirus software, and encryption software.
  3. Love and belongingness – Friendship, intimacy, trust, and acceptance, as well as receiving and giving affection and love, are all examples of belongingness demands.
  4. Self esteem – According to Maslow, the need for respect or reputation is the most important, and it comes before true self-esteem or dignity. Furthermore, being familiar with digital skills can boost someone’s self-esteem and help them find work.
  5. Self accusation needs – Many people will appreciate technology in the same way as they do food, air, and water. There will be those who compare technology to safety concerns, and so on. There will always be some who believe that technology is the apex of human growth.
