Last meeting we had discussed how the need for a well-constructed safety cage was both practical and necessary to safeguard our team members from the potential injuries that could occur from being in close proximity of rapidly spinning propeller blades that we would mount on our RCbenchmark test stands. Given this, we were able to construct the overall frame that we would use for this cage. however, the next step was to design some hinges for access doors that we would need to use in order to be able to access the propeller blades in the first place. after doing some research we were able to explore different hinge designs that we thought would be suitable for this application. ultimately, we settled on a design for the upper hinge that would give us 270 degrees of rotation that would need to be made through modifying hinge hardware that was already available to us in the ODU machine shop. as for the bottom set of hinges, we decided on using a 3d printed model that was both strong and lightweight. our team member James W was able to successfully print out the hinges and myself and James M were able to install them and verify proper fit.
