The book review for this assignment was Elevate and Dominate: 21 Ways to Win On and Off the Field by Deion Sanders. In this assignment, I reflected on two examples of misinformation and biased media coverage. First, I examined the story of Manti Te’o, a collegiate football player who was the victim of an elaborate catfishing scheme that shaped public perception of his career and character. I also analyzed Stanley J. Davis’s article How the Media Covered the Civil Rights Movement: Black Newspapers, which highlighted how African American journalists like Emory Jackson worked to expose injustices despite facing censorship and discrimination. This assignment demonstrates my ability to critically evaluate how misinformation and media bias impact individuals, public opinion, and historical narratives.

In this assignment, I created a comprehensive self-development plan focused on building the mindset and skills necessary for effective global leadership. This plan outlines my commitment to stepping outside my comfort zone, learning from different cultures, and becoming a disciplined and empathetic leader both on and off the field.

The camp not only helped young athletes build their confidence and abilities but also strengthened community connections and showed what’s possible through hard work and support.
