Technical Communication

Technical communication is one of the most important skills I have developed through my military service, academic work, and professional experience. In IT and cybersecurity-related environments, it is not enough to understand a technical issue on your own. You also have to explain systems, processes, and solutions clearly to users, coworkers, supervisors, and leadership. Through my experience in the Marine Corps Reserve, IT support roles, and my work as a SharePoint Specialist, I have strengthened my ability to communicate technical information in a clear, organized, and professional way. This skill is important because strong communication helps prevent confusion, improve teamwork, and make technical systems easier for others to use.

Artifact 1: Marine Corps Helpdesk and IT Support Experience

What this artifact is

This artifact represents my experience serving in the United States Marine Corps Reserve as a Data Systems Administrator, where I supported Marines with a wide range of IT and account-related issues. My responsibilities included helping with SAARs, email and account access, Outlook and Microsoft Teams issues, device support, and general helpdesk functions.

What I did

In this role, I worked directly with Marines to help them understand technical issues and resolve them. I assisted with account creation requests, SAAR processes, email and access problems, device-related support, and general troubleshooting. I also had to communicate clearly and professionally so users understood what the issue was, what steps needed to be taken, and how the problem would be resolved.

Why this demonstrates technical communication

This artifact demonstrates technical communication because it shows my ability to explain technical information clearly in a military environment where communication has to be accurate, direct, and professional. Supporting users required me to break down technical processes in a way that others could understand while still making sure issues were resolved correctly.

Artifact 2: Reflection Paper

What this artifact is

This artifact is one of my internship reflection papers, where I explained my responsibilities, what I learned, and how my work connected to my professional growth.

What I did

In this reflection, I described my work in a clear and organized way, including my responsibilities, technical tasks, and what I learned from the experience. I had to explain my role in a professional format so that someone outside of my workplace could understand the work I completed and the skills I developed.

Why this demonstrates technical communication

This artifact demonstrates technical communication because it shows my ability to communicate technical and professional experiences clearly in writing. Strong technical communication is not only about speaking with users. It also includes being able to explain responsibilities, systems, and results in a way that is organized, professional, and easy to understand.

Artifact 3: Academic Research and Professional Writing

What this artifact is

This artifact is an academic paper I completed during my degree program that required me to explain technical and cybersecurity-related ideas in a clear, organized, and professional way.

Supporting Document

What I did

In this assignment, I researched the topic, organized the information, and presented it in a structured format that was easy for the reader to follow. I had to explain important ideas clearly, support my points with evidence, and make sure my writing stayed professional and understandable. This required me to take detailed information and communicate it in a way that made sense to someone reading the paper.

Why this demonstrates technical communication

This artifact demonstrates technical communication because it shows my ability to communicate complex information clearly in writing. In technical and professional fields, it is important to be able to explain ideas in a way that is organized, accurate, and easy for different audiences to understand. This artifact shows that I can do that through formal written communication.
