In todays age there is a spectrum of ways to receive sports news and information. Most of this information your obtaining comes from social media apps, but that was not always the case. For me my top three media platforms I use for my sports consumption “diet” is number one Twitter, number two Instagram, and number three Youtube. I mainly use twitter for my sports consumption; but as you can see there is a common theme here.. They are all apps. This was not always the case, five years ago I of course still used Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube. However, I also loved to read sports magazines like Sports Illustrated. I used to get entranced in the story telling the writers at Sports Illustrated were able to pull off. Sadly it is not the same as the type of sports media consumption I get now. Now everything is a short little twitter post, or at most a one paragraph “story” on a sports team. I think because of this I have started getting into sports podcasts. It gives me an audible discussion on what going on in the world of sports, and its not just a sentence on Twitter or a silly Instagram post. In the next five years I think social media is going to continue to take over the sports world, which don’t get me wrong, it is a good thing. Sometimes you miss the storytelling though. This is why I think podcasts are going to continue to grow in the sports industry, people love to talk and listen to people talk about sports. If I could change one thing with the swish of a wand I would bring back the effort people used to put into sport media. It is not all the media outlets, but a lot have stopped putting in the work in their stories, and they just want them out quick.
