Our research team lost a key member as we closed 2020. For 10 years Dr. Larry Atkinson led the sea level rise and coastal resilience initiative at ODU. He had an amazing superpower of bringing people together. We built a great team – including researchers from communications, engineering, public policy, stakeholder engagement, and many other fields of study – and our work on the policy and human dimensions of flooding and SLR continues. Larry was a colleague, mentor, and friend. His advice was always to “Put your head down and do the good work.” The good work continues in his memory. Rest in peace Larry with the ocean you loved.
