Entry #11

What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?

There are many things that are different about criminal justice and cybercrime, and there are also a lot of similarities between the two. Before I talk about the similarities, I want to explain a little bit about what Criminal justice and Cybercrime is. Criminal justice is the system that hands out punishments to criminals. These systems can include a lot of people and things, such as the police, the defendants, the judges, the court, and so on. Cybercrime refers to the criminal acts of targeting a computer or network, this can also include people using these devices as tools to commit cybercrime. People or organizations will usually commit these crimes, because it is another way to make a lot of money.

There are many ways that criminal justice and cybercrime can overlap and interact with each other. One way is that criminals on the internet still need to be punished for their crimes. While there are ways that they can be punished by their peers online, there still need to be ways that they have to be punished in real life. One example could be people who swat others; swatting is the act of calling in a fake emergency to dispatch a large number of officers to an address. People who swat others still need to be punished by their crimes in society, while they might get banned from online forums, it is still not enough.

This overlap relates to the other things we have discussed in this class, because the things we have discussed are ways that people could commit cybercrimes. People commit cybercrimes, such as phishing, zip bombs, swatting, hacking, etc. These criminals will then have to go through the justice system like any other criminal. These are all related because they all have to do with criminal behavior’s and going through the criminal justice system.
