Technical/Cybersecurity Skills
One of the technical skills I obtained throughout the cybersecurity degree was network security. I studied network security in CS 464 Networked Systems Security. This course teaches students the fundamentals of networking, common security issues with networks, and methods used to secure networks and systems. This course helped me to understand how attacks impact networks and how security measures help alleviate those impacts. I will apply the technical knowledge I gained in this course to future cybersecurity courses and future cybersecurity career.
Research & Critical Thinking
Research and critical thinking are skills I have gained and worked on during my degree. In CYSE 425W, I was tasked with writing policy analysis papers that involved research of cybersecurity policies, locating credible sources of information, evaluating sources for accuracy and reliability, and drawing conclusions using evidence to support my claims. These tasks helped me improve my research methods on cybersecurity topics and assess what information is credible, valuable, and impacts cybersecurity policy, both organizationally and individually.
Communication & Professional Skills
Working with Place4Us I have been able to develop my communication and professional skills and have been given the opportunity to use the knowledge I have gained from studying cybersecurity in the classroom. For example, I researched all areas of the platform including user roles and authorities, user privacy, MyFiles, and GAI detection. I then outlined, recorded and provided updates and recommendations during team meetings and considered possible security concerns in the platform.
