Read this and write and journal entry summarizing your response to the article on social cybersecurity.
After reading the article, I suppose the main idea that hit me was the general idea of how rapidly this concept is changing. Technology has made it possible for both state and non-state actors to manipulate information, which is concerning as it raises serious concerns about information warfare. The article discusses the difference between traditional cybersecurity, which is concerned with safeguarding information systems. Because it examines the psychology and persuasion strategies employed in information operations, which I thought was really cool of the idea of “cognitive hacking”.
The topic of bots acting as force multiples is mentioned in the article. Basically, showing how artificial intelligence and automation are used to manipulate information and social networks. This is particularly important when discussing topics like political manipulation, disinformation, and propaganda. It comes off as very alarming but interesting to think on, as our technology evolves, we also need to keep an eye out for any possibilities, convenient or inconvenient.
