Joan P. Brock Institute for Nutrition Science and Health

The Joan P. Brock Institute for Nutrition Science and Health, one of the administrative units of the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU), integrates nutrition and lifestyle medicine into medical and health professions education, clinical innovation, basic science and translational research, and community health.

History

In December 2025, ODU announced the establishment of the institute, thanks to a $15 million gift from Joan P. Brock, philanthropist and generous supporter of ODU initiatives. In July 2026, it was announced that Dr. Karen Studer, Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Loma Linda University, would be the inaugural dean of the institute.
