
In the case analysis on professional ethics, I looked at Bill Sourour and the consequences of the code he wrote for a quiz in which it would ask girls several questions to recommend a drug that was best for them. I looked at this case from a utilitarian perspective which focused on showing how the code was morally problematic because it caused more harm than good. Also, I examined what Sourour did and how he could have handled things differently because he did not act in a way that would promote a good outcome for the majority.
This case analysis was a wake up call for me as it taught me how careless people can be when they are tasked with writing code for companies. Sourour was a prime example as to why ethics should be considered above all us, even financial gain, especially if the good does not outweigh the bad.
