Ethical Paper

NURS 332: The Growing Family

Purpose of the Assignment: To examine a controversial or politically or publicly debated women’s health, obstetric, or neonatal issue and present both sides equally.

Student Approach to Assignment: I approached this assignment by identifying a controversial women’s health issue common in today’s society. I researched on the topic and identified both sides of the ethical issue. Upon completion of the assignment, I was able to identify a controversial women’s health issue and present/support both sides of the issue equally.

Reason for Inclusion of the Assignment in the Portfolio: The inclusion of this assignment in the portfolio is important because it demonstrates my ability to explore an ethical issue and present two different perspectives. It highlights my skills in identifying different cultures and ethical reasonings.

  • Domain 1: Knowledge for Nursing Practice
    • (3) Articulates an understanding of how human behavior is affected by culture, race, religion, gender, lifestyle, and age.
      • In this assignment, I discussed the human behaviors affecting gender by explaining the difference between female and male circumcision and the role that religion plays in them. I acknowledged the “norms” in religion and recognized how healthcare decisions can be impacted heavily by culture, religion, gender, and lifestyle.
    • (5) Maintains an awareness of global environmental factors that may influence the delivery of health care services.
      • In this assignment, I addressed the global factors that affect health care services. These global factors include how cultural and religion influence health care services and decisions. I also adressed global differences across health care services in the United States vs other countries. This is important because as a nurse I must identify outside or global factors that can impact or have been impacting health care services to my patients.
