Application of Deconstructive Criticism

As Deconstruction’s primary objective is to showcase how a text has already dismantled itself by using binaries I chose Kate Chopin’s short story, “The Storm” as evidence. Upon learning the deconstruction theory I learned that what an author writes does not equate to their own meanings based on the language of the text.   Chopin’s motif in the story addresses the binaries of fidelity and infidelity within marriage, with obvious leanings towards infidelity, the lesser privileged binary.  However the story contradicts itself by revealing that marriages are perhaps stronger when there’s brief liberties and secrets.  If I were to improve my essay I would have addressed whether the story’s theme was Chopin’s own voice  directly addressing adultery within the time period of the story and when she wrote it or whether it was the narrator’s  own thoughts based on the plot of the story.
