Riquelme’s “A Deconstructive Perception” broke down Bram Stoker’s novel, “Dracula” into a basis of repetition and doubling.  However even though Riquelme primarily used deconstructive criticism using the concepts of binaries I was able to identify and interpret his own essay of the novel using several other theories:  structuralism, reader-response criticism, and psychoanalytic criticism.  I chose Riquelme’s work because I’m very fascinated with binaries especially between men and women and humans and monsters.  The concepts of repetition and doubling proved the binary pairs aforementioned are merely products of our ideologies and self-destruction by forcing a mirror to ourselves.  I am quite proud of my essay and would not change it, but I would want to build on it by adding more of my recent knowledge on feminist criticism by describing the character Lucy’s transformation from an innocent girl to a much empowered vampire and how her transformation was a stand against the patriarchy.  Therefore making the story a feminist novel.
