Application of Feminism

As Feminist Criticism seeks to evaluate how stories attempt or dismantle patriarchy I chose “Eveline” by James Joyce to discuss how the character is indeed, a feminist, but because of the time she was written in her situation would not have been the definition of woman empowerment, but the fact is because she had a choice to define her future this is what makes her story a hallmark of the feminist theory.  I learned from this theory that feminism draws on elements of psychoanalysis and Marxist theories to examine the woman’s experience. If I wanted to improve my essay I would have included those elements to further develop and explain Eveline’s choice to stay with her family.
