At CMM group our research is focused on studying mechanics of materials, specifically various composites. We are interested in novel composite manufacturing technology and the related problems. Our core efforts are related to computational modeling of failure, physics-based process modeling, material characterization and mechanical testing. The ongoing research projects cover various novel manufacturing methods, such as automated fiber placement, compression molding of long discontinuous fiber systems, 3D printing of polymer composites, fiber stitching, through-thickness reinforcement and repair of composites. Group is actively collaborating with other faculty at ODU in the areas of robotics and machine learning, as well as with other universities, including University of British Columbia and Kyoto University. The ongoing projects have been supported by funding from NASA, NSF and industrial partners.
