NURS 363 Nursing Research
In this class I researched how to help the aggregate of patients that I was serving while at PIN Ministry. In this class I got to work in a group to better learn about the health disparities my aggregate faces each and every day of their life. We then came together to form a research project to try and help our aggregate face these disparities head on. We focused our research study on Hypertension. A large part of our community faces hypertension in their daily lives. Some are on medication, some are simply monitoring it, and many are at risk of having it. We took the time to find an easier way for our community to manage their hypertension through automatic blood pressure cuffs that they could simply carry around in their backpacks. We educated them on hypertension, the signs and symptoms, how to use the blood pressure cuffs, and the benefits of using it every day. The research that we performed will continue to go on and help many community members both within our aggregate as well as other communities around the world. This research is valuable as it could help to better prevent and help treat hypertension among many populations. Hypertension is something that most adults face and it can cause a huge impact on someone’s health. Hypertension is easy to catch and treat, but without the proper means for everyone to do so it can go untreated for long periods of time. This can lead to further health problems such as heart failure, stroke, and death. Through our research we were able to educate both our aggregate, fellow class member, faculty, and community partners. In this way we are ensuring that this research continues to be used. Now that our communities partners have access to the research and all the learning material they can continue to put automatic blood pressure cuffs into use to continue to help serve the community and our aggregate. For our faculty and fellow students they will be able to take this knowledge into the field and put it into action wherever they may end up. This knowledge does not end when we graduate, but continues to flourish and become something that touches the lives of those who come across it.
