PEMAT Intro Page
Purpose of the Assignment: The purpose of this assignment is to assess 2 healthcare websites using the AHRQ PEMAT tool and determine the evaluate the understandability and actionability of sites where patients go for healthcare information.
Student Approach to Assignment: I used the PEMAT evaluation tool to assess how easy 2 websites were for patients to understand and follow. We evaluated the Mayo clinic and the American Burn Association on their teaching of burns.
Reason for Inclusion of the Assignment in the Portfolio: I chose to include this in my portfolio due to the nature of the research. It is important for us as nurses to be able to evaluate the teaching not only that we are giving our patients, but to be familiar with the teaching that our patients are getting from the internet before they even get to us. Being able to have information that is easy to understand, and follow can make a difference in our patient’s health outcomes.
