Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Intro Page
Purpose of the Assignment: The purpose of this assignment is to describe a nursing or patient care concern that needs improvement and analyze the significance of the concern for nursing practice in relation to the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competences.
Student Approach to Assignment: My approach to this assignment was to use research partnered with the QSEN competencies to break down a patient care concern and find a plan to combat this concern. I also found ways as a nurse manager in which I could help us implement these plans going forward.
Reason for Inclusion of the Assignment in the Portfolio: I included this assignment in the portfolio because this is a concern that many hospitals and patients deal with on a daily basis. Pressure injuries are one of the highest concerns we face in the healthcare world and yet they are preventable. This shows how important education on the topic is.
Domain 5: Quality and Safety
- End of Program Outcome 30: Accesses and utilizes data and information from a wide range of sources to evaluate patient safety and care outcomes.
- As seen in this paper I utilized sources for research to evaluate patient safety and care outcomes. I came up with a plan to better care for the safety of our patients and provide better health outcomes in regard to pressure injuries.
Domain 6: Interprofessional Partnerships
- End of Program Outcome 17: Articulate the nurse’s role as a member of the interprofessional team in promoting safety and preventing errors and near misses.
- As seen in this paper, it is our job as nurses to care for our patients and the safety of our patients. We should be doing the best of our ability to care for our patients and avoid errors and near misses. This means that as nurses we should be preventing pressure injuries which are 100% avoidable with proper turning and care.
