I am a Ph.D student in the Ocean and Earth Sciences Department at Old Dominion University. I am currently engaged in groundbreaking research on Karenia species, with an emphasis on cultivating these fascinating marine organisms to better understand their intricate ecological roles and their responses to environmental variability affected by climate change. My passion for marine primary producers and plants drives to unravel the complexities of these organisms and their vital contributions to oceanic health. Through my research, I aspire to contribute meaningful insights into how these remarkable organisms adapt to shifting environmental conditions, emphasizing the importance of preserving marine biodiversity in the face of global change.
I hold a Bachelor’s and master’s degree in Oceanography from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. During my undergraduate studies, I focused on phytoplankton and zooplankton research in relation to water quality assessment. For my Master’s, I explored the extraction of sodium alginate from brown seaweed, diving deeper into the importance of these naturally occurring brown seaweeds in industry.
