Dennis J. Zeisler (1947-2020) was a music instructor at Old Dominion University (ODU) from 1979 until his retirement in 2018. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Music, both from the University of Michigan.

Service to Old Dominion and Profession

While at ODU, Zeisler served as chair of the Department of Music for 15 years, director of bands, and professor of clarinet and saxophone. During his tenure, the wind ensemble grew into a preeminent ensemble in Virginia. In addition to his service to ODU, Zeisler also founded and conducted the Virginia Wind Symphony, president of the American Bandmasters Association, and sat on several music boards. A member of the West Point Army Band, Zeisler also taught music to other military service members. When he retired in 2018, the band room was renamed the Dennis J. Zeisler Rehearsal Hall.
