Louis H. Janda, Psychology Professor, circa 1973-1979

Dr. Louis H. Janda, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Old Dominion University (ODU), died on March 24, 2020 at the age of 73. Dr. Janda taught at ODU from 1973 until his retirement as Associate Professor Emeritus in 2016. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 1969, his Master of Science in psychology in 1971, and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 1972, both from Arizona State University. He also received his licence to practice clinical psychology in 1982. Prior to coming to ODU, Dr. Janda served as a psychology intern at the Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Service to Old Dominion and Profession

In addition to teaching courses in the Department of Psychology, Dr. Janda also wrote numerous articles and books, specializing in psychological testing, human sexuality, and coping with serious illness. He also served as the director of the psychology master’s program, director of clinical training for the Virginia Consortium for Professional Psychology, chair of the Honors Program Committee in psychology, and director of the undergraduate specialty in clinical psychology.
