Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University
The Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) serves as the overarching structure for all health sciences programming and operations at ODU, including the Ellmer College of Health Sciences, Joint School of Public Health, the Ellmer School of Nursing, as well as the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) School of Health Professions, EVMS Medical Group, and EVMS School of Medicine at Old Dominion University (ODU). These areas are overseen by the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences.
History
With the merger of ODU and EVMS on July 1, 2024, the position of Executive Vice President for Health Sciences was created to oversee the academic services related to health sciences provided by the two institutions. Dr. Alfred Abuhamad, President, Provost, and Dean of the School of Medicine at EVMS, was named the inaugural Executive Vice President for Health Sciences. The entity was named in honor of a $20 million gift from Joan Brock.
