The Human Factor in Cybersecurity

Realizing that I have a limited budget, I would balance the tradeoff of training and additional technology by securing all data to only allow authorized people to access the data. As a result, this would protect “enterprises from both internal and external threats without altering the way users collaborate, share, and use files” (Capone, 2018). Also, I would make sure that there is a login for all employees at the company to keep data secure and confidential. That way if anything does happen, the security team can quickly uncover the problem based on who had access and at what time. To clarify, it “enables security orchestration tools to take immediate action based on any risks uncovered in the logs” (Capone, 2018). Furthermore, it is important to look at behavioral science in a sense that humans play a role when it comes to the increase in cybersecurity risks. People may misinterpret threats and risks when it comes to data, therefore, allowing cyber criminals to have easier access to grab a company’s confidential information. However, understanding the idea of behavior science would allow companies “to apply a new human-centered vision to cybersecurity problems in order to detect risks which they have not encountered or have not anticipated before” (Cyberbitsetc.org). When it comes to having an organized company, it is important that all employees are effective communicators to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Being a good communicator with your colleagues would allow for a more secure company. In addition, training my employees to know and understand how to look out for threats is extremely important to prevent cyber attacks. For instance, “threats like viruses use digital means but require human involvement as the user has to open an email attachment, click on a link, or go to the website in order to set viruses in motion” (Cyberbitsetc.org). All employees whether they are part of the cybersecurity team or not should be made aware of these kinds of threats because it directly affects the entire company. Overall, I think that it is important to have well qualified employees and the most up to date security systems to ensure that a company will not be vulnerable to cyber attacks and threats.
