Joint School of Public Health

The Joint School of Public Health is one of the schools at Old Dominion University (ODU). The school is housed at ODU but is a collaboration between ODU and Norfolk State University). The ONE School of Public Health, as it will be known, offers collaborative degree programs leading to a Master of Public Health and a Ph.D. in Health Services Research. The school is also involved with research addressing public health challenges. The school will offer a Master of Public Health and a Ph.D. in Health Services Research.

History

The school was proposed in 2022 as part of the merger between ODU and EVMS. Dr. Li-Wu Chen was selected as the founding Dean of the school in November 2022 and began his tenure in March 2023. As of July 1, 2024, with the merger of ODU and Eastern State Medical School (EVMS), the school reports to the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences in the Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. The first cohort of graduates from the school took place at Commencement in December 2025.
