The Chemistry Building houses the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Old Dominion University (ODU). The building is located off Elkhorn Avenue between the Oceanography and Physical Sciences Building and the Jim Jarret Athletic Administration Building.

History

In 2019, construction began on the Chemistry Building to replace the Alfriend Chemistry Building, which had been the chemistry building since 1967. The new facility features over 110,000 square feet of classroom and office space, 37 research and teaching lab, as well as the new Michael and Kimthanh Lê Planetarium that projects images onto a 49 foot dome in 4K resolution. The four story structure cost an estimated $76 million to complete. The building was dedicated in April 2021 and fully opened to the students for the Fall 2021 semester.
