Office of Educational Accessibility
The Office of Educational Accessibility at Old Dominion University (ODU) assists students with disabilities pursue and achieve their educational goals as well as making sure ODU is in compliance with all legal mandates. The office is currently located in the Student Success Center.
History
From 1979 to 1982, services for disabled students were provided through the Student Affairs office, with Brenda Friedman, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, was responsible from 1980 to 1981 and Angela Blackwell, Director of Commuter Student Services, was responsible from 1981 to 1982. In 1982, the Handicapped Student Services office was established. The name of the of the office changed in 1989 to Disabled Student Services, and in 1992, Nancy Olthoff became the first Coordinator of Disabled Student Services. The following year, the office’s name changed to Disability Services, and in 2010, the office name changed again to the Office of Educational Accessibility.
